Appropriate internet use if cirtical for everyone. The schools have gone to great length to protect the integrity of its staff, students, and the information on its systems. The internet is understandably for internet use only.

Inappropriate language is completely unacceptable and should be addressed.

Copyright infringement is critical to highlight. Teachers have been proven guilty of copyright infringement causing great liability and cost to themselves and their administration.

Email needs to be monitored in all settings and all who utilize this great tool should be mindful of the fact that it can be monitored with every email as indicated. It’s interesting to learn that technology has advanced enough for students to use email at school.

Email Etiquette in critical for teachers and school leaders. As a representative for the school and school system, it is imperative there is never the perception of agressive behavior on the internet, in email, or even in social networking.

Although typical access protocal is understood, it is probably inconvenient to be restricted from connecting personal laptops that are used to work on assignments at home.

The quality of the information on the internet is often believed to be golden at every turn. It is wise to include a disclaimer regarding the quality of information on the website, protecting the schools from unnecessary conflict.

Vandalism should not be tolerated.

Inappropriate internet results in disciplinary action up to and including termination inthe corporate world. It is well within reason for this practice to carry-over into most workplaces.

Technology can have an enormous impact on student teaching. the resources available to students know if amazing. All of the answers are at your fingertips for the asking. it is simply amazing. As I think back to 5th grade, with my bookreports and bibliographies, I remember having to drive to the library and find an encyclopedia with the information I needed to write a paper. Do you remember encyclopedias? They were about a million dollars for the set. Just compare the amount of information in those A-Zs in comparison to the ridiculously vast amount of information on the internet.

In addition to the internet, which is topic enough alone, there are so many teaching toos that can enhance learning and aid teachers in making lesson plans interesting and engaging. Communication between teacher-student has changed tremendously in the last 15 years, the way assignments are communicated and submitted has changed. Everything is automated causing pure joy in some cases and pure havoc in others. Ultimately, technology has made a profound impact on education as a whole. Student learning is elevated to a much higher level as a result of today’s technology

Hmmm… Interesting. It is concerning that we are all subject to ethical challenges and misgivings as we are involuntarily exposed to the digital world. There are many opportunities to be not only un ethical or deceptive, but you can be extremely invasive to the provacy of others and then ultimately expose them to all by use of media. … All from the comfort of your home, a friend’s house, a beach, you name it.

The notion Teacher’s are becoming more of a guide or coach as opposed to a dissiminator of information is an interesting thought. As we move more into the age of home schooling, where the digital world replaces the traditional classroom environment it is essential to consider the impact the digital generation will have on children, teaching, and ultimately the character of people as opportunities continue to present themselves for unethical bevavior that becomes more widely practiced and then ultimately more widely accepted.

It has to be tough when you know children are having challenges at home. I want to develop enough of a relationship with the parents to be able to communicate with them openly, in the best interest of the child, as these teachers did during the first year. Although, many parents have difficulty processing difficult messages, I think it can be done if parents understand that you are communicating for the good of the child and you will help them resolve the issue. I talk to a lot of parents and many have been contacted by their child’s teacher regarding behavior and many are very defensive. When I asked them why they are so defensive they make one senseless excuse after another, like the teacher is making it up. I often ask parents why a teacher would say the child is misbehaving if they’re not. How would that benefit a teacher? I don’t get it. I haven’t gotten a reasonable explanation to why that might happen yet. I believe parents feel stuck in a sense because once the teacher brings a problem to their attention, the parent now has the responsibility of doing something to resolve the issue or be seen as a “bad parent”. The unfortunate reality is a very small percentage of parents have the knowledge or resources to pull from to resolve the vast array of issues that a child can face. Parents will often look for someone to blame rather take on the work required to find solutions. Hey… whose got the time?! I think reasearching by whatever means is definitely a necessary nuisance to be taken on immediately and continuously to arm parents with the ability to address the many issue kids face at school and in general.

At any rate, I think the teachers could have reached out to Dad to talk to him about Thomas’ behavior and offer suggestions on how to partner to improve his behavior. As I mentioned before, I’ve found that many parents are defensive or fail to be receptive to difficult messages regarding a need for change in a child primarily because… they just don’t know what to do… and if you bring it to their attention they often take it personally or just somehow disagree. The tough parent often lacks the knowledge necessary to make the change and could take it personally but I think the teachers should have continued to discipline Thomas consistently, in line with past practice, and should take advantage of an opportunity to enlighten or at least share their thoughts with Dad about what might help Thomas’ behavior improve at school and at home. They could tell Dad what type of environment/situations/responses from Mom/Dad could cause positive changes and educating Dad helps Thomas long-term.

We should care about developing students’ higher-order thinking skills because these skills are essential to learning how to disseminate all information. Throughout our careers–our lives we make decisions and a huge part of good decision-making is being able to use higher-order thinking skills to ask yourself questions, weigh options, etc. Not only will children remember information better but they are better able to apply information and use pieces of information to learn and understand other concepts. When children are presented information and expected to think beyond they will, and they become better thinkers which is really the ultimate goal. It’s important to develop thinking and reasoning skills which ultimately enable children to make better decisions, become more logical and even communicate better which makes a better whole person. Developing higher-order thinking skills in students will yield long-term positive results.

I am pursuing a career in teaching because I have a lot to offer in a teaching role. I love children. I am patient, optimistic, playful and creative. I enjoy teaching my children and extended family. I enjoy finding ways to help them understand difficult concepts. I agree that different children/people learn in different ways and I have thoroughly enjoyed what I’ve learned so far this session. I’m eager to learn new ways to help my children become better learners and to use these concepts and practices in a teaching role to make a positive impact on the children in our community. I know this experience will enable me to be an even better parent and a great teacher.
